Although the official trailer left many players wondering if the game would be powered by Unreal Engine 5, the developers have since confirmed it will be using the same Unity engine as the original Cities: Skylines. Many fans of the game have discussed the advantages of this choice, prompting them to consider why developers would choose to remain with Unity.
One of the main advantages of using Unity is that the developers already possess extensive knowledge of the engine, meaning they do not have to waste resources relearning the system for the new game.
