Genshin Impact — Swords, Bow & Anime Magic

Genshin Impact is one of the most popular RPG games at the moment. The plot of this magical adventure revolves around the story of two twins. One of them gets captured by the Unknown God — a mysterious evil deity. And this is when  realaction begins.

Welcome to Teyvat

The story begins with  you and your sibling exploring the wonderful world of Teyvat where you will see vanilla sunsets, weird hybrid of Hellenistic/gothic architecture and mysterious glowing obelisks charged with ancient magic.

After some travelling together, your sibling will be kidnapped. Your mission is to rescue him/her from the claws of The Sustainer of Heavenly Principles, who looks like a kawaii anime lady, but harbors inside her twisted mind quite disturbing plans of enslaving everyone.

And here’s when the Genshin’s gameplay begins to shine. For starters, you get to explore its vast beautiful world, which even has its own newspaper “Teyvat Times”. There’s a myriad of treasure chests to unearth, ghosts to stalk, picturesque hills to climb, and so on.

You can even take a glider and fly through the air like an anime pterodactyl, which helps you cut the routes, spot secret locations and complete missions more successfully.

Gliding requires stamina, so don’t expect to be able to fly from Byakko Plain to Inazuma City. But you can get more stamina: for that, you need to collect magical tears and bring them to the closest divine statue.

Dungeons & tactics

The dungeon element is a big deal in Genshin Impact’s gameplay. Here you will earn experience, farm loot and earn valuable Primogems — the in-game money that everyone’s hunting after.

Even though dungeons look and feel similar, they are packed with different types of mobs: Automatons, Cryo Hillicurls, Pyro Abyss Mages, Nobushis and others baddies to slay. And also don’t forget about the bosses!

To beat each dungeon successfully, you’ll need to assemble a strong party. Four heroes and heroines are available to be on it simultaneously, while you can unlock 23 of them in total. And you can use one character at a time during a battle.

A great tactical advantage that you get is the elemental affinity system. Elements include:

  • Anemo.
  • Hydro.
  • Electro.
  • Dendro.
  • Cryo.
  • Geo.
  • Pyro.

Consequently, each elemental attack works most effectively against a certain element that your enemy belongs to. Like Pyro against Dendro: they mean ”fire” and “tree” in Latin. And the fire attack will deal more extra damage if there’s grass around due to flames spreading.

But there’s more to the elemental system. You can also benefit from the statuses: once you place a “status” aka spell on your foe, you can also use another element to produce a more devastating attack.

For example, Hydro or Ice work extremely well with Electro — a frozen/wet enemy has a better conductivity, which results in them losing way more HP. So, think tactically when raiding another dungeon or battling bosses.

Pros:
  • Free-to-play
  • Gliding wings
  • Clever elemental system
  • Big and beautiful open world.
Cons:
  • Hard to unlock heroes
  • Primogems are given sparingly for free
  • Occasional glitches inside the dungeons.
