After facing a surge of negative reviews from Steam users, the developers of Earth Defense Force 6 are reevaluating their decision to mandate an Epic account for online play. The game recently experienced a considerable backlash, accumulating 1,456 negative reviews due to this requirement.
The development team is taking the criticism seriously and has announced that they are in the process of planning changes. In a new Steam blog post, the devs expressed their gratitude for the feedback and informed users that they are reviewing and planning alterations to the controversial specification. They admitted that they cannot yet provide a timeline for these changes but assured the community that they are actively addressing the feedback received.
Currently, Earth Defense Force 6 has received 1,456 negative reviews, with the majority focusing on the necessity of signing into an Epic account for online play. Since its launch yesterday, the game's overall rating has improved slightly from mostly negative to 'Mixed,' thanks to 1,061 positive reviews from fans who are not particularly troubled by the Epic account requirement.
The situation is reminiscent of the response to Helldivers 2 and its PSN requirements, underscoring the frustration within the PC gaming community regarding additional account sign-ins for online features. For Earth Defense Force 6, the use of Epic Online Services (EOS) is intended to support crossplay functions, a common practice in the industry. However, not all games that use EOS require an Epic account login. The community is hopeful that the developers will be able to implement the planned changes swiftly.
Meanwhile, gamers looking to enjoy cooperative experiences can explore a wide variety of excellent co-op games available on the market.
