Valve, the video game software firm, has recently introduced refurbished Steam Decks for sale on its platform. In a move that promotes sustainable practices and encourages more gamers to utilize their platform, the refurbished Steam Decks are being offered at attractive discounts of up to £110 (equivalent to approximately $140).
The Steam Deck, famous for its handheld gaming console, bears resemblance to the Nintendo Switch in operation. It offers gamers the chance to play their favorite PC games on a portable platform. The device's refurbished models are thoroughly inspected and tested for quality, ensuring they function equivalent to new ones. The decision to sell refurbished devices resonates with tech companies' increasing trend of pushing for reducing electronic waste and promoting affordability.
The pricing of refurbished Steam Decks starts at £359 for the 64GB, eMMC model, which was previously priced at £399. The devices see a considerable markdown, with 256GB NVMe SSD model now available for £469 instead of £569 and the top-tier 512GB priced at $569, originally worth £679. It is worth noting that all these models come with a complete one-year warranty, irrespective of their refurbished status.
However, the slashed prices are exclusive to the United Kingdom at the moment. There has been no official communication from Valve regarding the extension of this initiative to other countries. Until then, gamers globally have to stay satisfied with the usual pricing. Regardless, the announcement offers a significant stride toward environmental sustainability and the affordability of gaming devices.
